Our story

‍ ‍Where It All Began

Nomi Porthmadog is part of a journey that began with Kartik and Nomi, two people brought together by food, care, hospitality, and the dream of creating something meaningful in North Wales.

For Kartik, food has always been more than cooking. It is about flavour, discipline, presentation, and the feeling a guest takes away after a meal. His experience in hospitality includes respected names such as The Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons, where he learned the importance of standards, service, detail, and making people feel properly looked after.

For Nomi, hospitality comes from a different but deeply connected place. Before moving to North Wales, she trained and worked as a dentist in India, a profession built on patience, precision, trust, and care for people. When she came to Bangor University, she found herself drawn to North Wales, its beauty, its people, and the possibility of building a new life here. Together, Kartik and Nomi wanted to create a restaurant that reflected both of them. Indian roots, modern ideas, careful service, warmth, and a genuine desire to look after people properly.

That is where Nomi began.

A New Chapter In Porthmadog

Set on the High Street in the heart of Porthmadog, Nomi Porthmadog brings the same spirit to a town full of character, history, and natural beauty.

The harbour is close by, Portmeirion is only a short distance away, Black Rock Sands and Criccieth are within easy reach, and the mountains of Eryri sit just beyond the coast. Porthmadog welcomes local families, visitors, walkers, railway lovers, holiday guests, and people exploring some of the most beautiful parts of North Wales.

For Kartik and Nomi, opening here was not simply about adding another restaurant. It was about bringing Nomi to a place with its own rhythm, warmth, and energy.

Porthmadog felt right because it brings together everything Nomi is about. Food, people, atmosphere, music, travel, beauty, and memorable moments around the table.

More Than A Curry House

At Nomi Porthmadog, Indian food is shaped with modern ideas, careful presentation, and genuine hospitality. The food is inspired by the flavours of India, but the experience is about more than spice alone. It is about balance, colour, texture, detail, service, and the feeling guests take away after a meal.

Kartik’s cooking is not about repeating the usual curry house experience. It is about respecting Indian flavours while presenting them with freshness, care, and personality. His Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 2 qualification also adds another layer to the experience. From carefully chosen wines to thoughtful pairings, the meal is considered as a whole, not just dish by dish.

That is what we mean when we say Nomi is more than a curry house.

Food, Music, And The Feeling Of The Room

For Kartik and Nomi, a restaurant is not only about what is served on the plate. It is about the feeling of the whole evening. The welcome at the door. The lighting. The music. The energy in the room. The way people settle into conversation. The moment the food arrives. The feeling that guests are not being rushed, but genuinely looked after.

Music is an important part of the Nomi experience. It brings warmth, rhythm, and life to the room. It helps create the kind of atmosphere where people can relax, celebrate, talk, laugh, and enjoy the evening properly. At Nomi Porthmadog, the aim is to create an experience that feels alive but comfortable. Polished but never cold. Full of energy but still personal. Whether guests are joining after a visit to Portmeirion, returning from the beach, exploring Eryri, celebrating with family, or simply coming out for dinner on the High Street, the whole experience is designed to feel special.

Built With Heart

Nomi has always been family run at heart.

From Pwllheli to Bangor, and now to Porthmadog, the journey has been shaped by hard work, patience, community, gratitude, and the support of guests who believed in what Kartik and Nomi were trying to create. Each Nomi restaurant has its own character. Pwllheli is where the journey began. Bangor carries a personal connection, with rooms, sea views, and a link to Nomi’s time at Bangor University. Porthmadog brings a new energy, close to Portmeirion, the harbour, the coast, and the mountains.

But the heart is the same in every Nomi.

Indian roots, modern ideas, thoughtful service, music, warmth, and a genuine desire to make people feel looked after.Nomi Porthmadog is a modern Indian restaurant in the heart of Porthmadog, shaped by experience, brought to life with food and music, and built with care.
